Racism in Rastafari

Rastafari is known for its Afrocentrism, being centered on or around the motherland of Africa (or more specifically for Rastas, Ethiopia). This is a social and political aspect in Rastafari religion. This can also be related with racism.

Rastafari "prophet" Marcus Garvey used Afrocentrism in his teachings and publishings. This encouraged black people take pride in their roots and their heritage. This inspired Rastas to embrace all things African. With this, naturally, comes a hatred towards the upperclass and the government (which in the prime of the Rastafarian movement, the upperclass and government were caucasians).

I once saw a caucasian wearing Rastafarian tattoos on his biceps. One was a portrait of Bob Marley (which wasn't the worst because a lot of people hold Marley in high regard as a musician). There was also a country of Jamaica with it's flag within the borders (he could have been from Jamaica and his tattoo could've been a symbol of nationalism). And finally, (this guy had big arms, hence the number of tattoos) he also had an "Irie" tattoo in the colors of Ethiopia (red, yellow and green) which, I'm pretty sure, is from from Rastafari religion itself.

I'm not sure why a caucasian, such as this example would be flaunting such tattoos of a religion that extremely dislikes white people. It's ironic and contradictory. Afrocentrism is natural and inherent in Rastafari. Too often, people go with what is popular instead of doing research and knowing the underlying and historical value of things, i.e. Rastafari.

I am backing up Victoria on this one! Just because the Rastas are against corrupted institutions and oppression, does not make them a bunch of racists! Rastas don't "hate white people" that is the most ignorant statement a moron could make. It is not the Rastas fault if a large marjority of the peoples who have oppressed their people historically have been white, Rastas love love and have enormous love and respect for people of all colors and walks of life, Christians can learn a lot about living for God from Rastafarians. Especially morons who learn big words like Afrocentrism and think they can accurately and truthfully prove any kind of racist mentality among a majority of Rastafarians. You have to look at the big picture here...The teachings are OF LOVE and regardless of the opinions of morons, true rastas love whites and all people, true christians love blacks as well as all people, the faith is about the love and the truth people, stop focusing on where we are divided and see where we are one in the same. The Christians Sacred Holy Book Supports the use of Marijuana on page one. Genesis Ch 1, verses 11-12. Stop condemning and accusing your brothers of racism, Jesus himself said "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

This was made out to the public because it is true??? There are no white Rastas. Rastafari was founded by black people to help black people or other minorities (not white people) to save them from Babylon. Marcus Garvey and all of the founding fathers of rastafari also had the intention of africanism which is for all Africans to return to Africa and be happy for eternity. So when it comes down to rastafari is racist but with good intension for Africans only. Don't believe me? Read a book. Watch an interview. The truth is clear.

There is truth in both perspectives. However, sitting here calling each other morons is NOT part of spreading love. I hope each of you find it in your heart to drop the nonsense, and just be you. Besides, this philosophy doesn't condone isms orians, so let's stop labeling and start loving people!
